Official vs unofficial builds
Every ROM listing on CustomDroid carries a status label. Here's what each one means and how much to trust it.
Official
The build is published and maintained by the ROM project itself, through its own infrastructure. To earn “official” status a device usually has to pass the project's review and keep a named maintainer who ships regular updates. These are the most vetted builds, and the ones to prefer when you have a choice.
Unofficial
A community or maintainer build that isn't part of the ROM's official releases — often hosted on a forum or a personal server. Unofficial doesn't mean bad; it's how most devices start out, and many are excellent. It does mean less vetting, so read the maintainer's thread, check recent feedback, and confirm the build is for your exact codename.
Discontinued (EOL)
The build is no longer actively maintained — the latest version may be old and missing security patches. CustomDroid keeps these listed as a historical record, but treat them with care. See what end-of-life means for the details.
A note on freshness
Status isn't the whole story — an official build that hasn't been updated in many months can be staler than a busy unofficial one. CustomDroid flags builds with no update in over six months as may be stale; always check the update date alongside the label.
