Privacy
CustomDroid is a directory you can use without an account, without logging in, and without us building a profile of you. We collect as little as possible. Here's exactly what that means.
No accounts, no tracking cookies
There are no user accounts and we don't set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can browse and search the whole site anonymously.
Analytics
We use a self-hosted instance of Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool. It is cookieless and records only aggregated, anonymous page-view data (such as which pages are popular and rough referrer and country information). It does not track you across other websites and we cannot use it to identify you.
Search queries
When you search, we store the normalised query text and a count, in aggregate — one row per distinct query — so we can see which phones people look for and which return no results (this drives the most-wanted list). These records are not linked to you or your device.
“Request a ROM”
Pressing “Want a ROM here” on a phone with no custom ROM increments a public counter for that device. We store the count only — no personal information is collected.
“Report wrong data”
If you send a correction through a listing's report form, we store what you wrote, which device and ROM it's about, and when. No name, email address or IP address is stored with it. Reports are read only by us, to fix the data, and are never published.
Banking app reports
If you add a report on the banking apps page, we store what you enter (the app, country, ROM, Google setup, whether it works, and your optional note) and when. No name, email address or IP address is stored with it. Unlike corrections, these reports are publishedon that page once we've reviewed them, so don't put anything personal in the note.
Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider processes standard request data (including IP addresses) transiently to serve pages and guard against abuse. We don't use this for analytics or build it into profiles.
Nothing loads from third parties
Everything a CustomDroid page loads — fonts, icons and device photos — is served from this domain. Nothing is fetched from another company's servers in the background, so simply reading a page doesn't reveal your IP address or browser to anyone but us. The one exception is the analytics script described above, which comes from our own self-hosted Umami instance.
Device photos are a good example: they come from the LineageOS wiki, but we fetch and cache them on our server rather than having your browser load them from the wiki directly.
Links to other sites
ROM listings link out to each project's own website, download and donation pages. Those are ordinary links — nothing is requested from them until you choose to click. Once you follow one, that site's own privacy policy applies, and we have no control over it.
